Kampo medicine is the Japanese adaptation of traditional medicine. In Kampo medicine, ââ?¬Å?medical interviewââ?¬Â plays an important\r\nrole. ââ?¬Å?Medical interviewââ?¬Â in Japanese traditional medicine includes not only chief complaint but also a questionnaire that asked\r\nabout the patientââ?¬â?¢s lifestyle and subjective symptoms. The diagnosis by Kampo is called ââ?¬Å?Shoââ?¬Â and determined by completely\r\ndifferent view from Western medicine. Specialists gather all available information and decide ââ?¬Å?Sho.ââ?¬Â And this is the reason why\r\nnon-Kampo specialists without technical knowledge have difficulties to use traditional medicine. We analyzed ââ?¬Å?medical interviewââ?¬Â\r\ndata to establish an indicator for non-Kampo specialist without technical knowledge to perform suitable traditional medicine.We\r\npredicted ââ?¬Å?Shoââ?¬Â by using random forests algorithm which is powerful algorithm for classification. First, we use all the 2830 firstvisit\r\npatientsââ?¬â?¢ data. The discriminant ratio of training data was perfect but that of test data is only 67.0%. Second, to achieve high\r\nprediction power for practical use, we did data cleaning, and discriminant ratio of test data was 72.4%. Third, we added body mass\r\nindex (BMI) data to ââ?¬Å?medical interviewââ?¬Â data and discriminant ratio of test data is 91.2%. Originally, deficiency and excess category\r\nmeans that patient is strongly built or poorly built. We notice that the most important variable for classification is BMI....
To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Shensong Yangxin (SSYX) in patients with bradycardia arrhythmias, a randomized, doubleblind,\r\nand placebo-controlled study was conducted. Patients with bradycardia were randomly assigned to receive either SSYX (trial\r\ngroup, ?? = 115) or placebo (control group, ?? = 104) for 4 weeks. ECG, 24-hour continuous ECG recording, echocardiography, and\r\nhepatic and renal function were evaluated at baseline and after treatment. Results showed that the average heart rate, the fastest\r\nheart rate, and the lowest heart rate in the trial group were all significantly higher than those in the control group at the end of\r\ntreatment (?? < 0.05 or 0.01, resp.). Compared with pretreatment, the average heart rate, the fastest heart rate, and the lowest heart\r\nrate in the trial group all increased significantly after treatment (?? < 0.05 or 0.01, resp.). Both the efficacy and the symptomscores in\r\nthe trial group were significantly better than those in the control group after treatment (both having ?? < 0.01). No severe adverse\r\neffects were reported. In conclusion, SSYX treatment significantly increased the heart rate in patients with bradycardia without\r\nsevere side effects. The exact mechanisms remain to be further explored....
Objective. The aim of this study is to systematically evaluate the evidence whether traditional Chinese herbal patches (TCHPs)\r\nfor osteoarthritis (OA) are effective and safe and analyze their medication patterns. Methods. A systematic literature search was\r\nperformed using all the possibleMedical SubjectHeadings (MeSH) and keywords fromJanuary 1979 to July 2013. Both randomized\r\ncontrolled trials (RCTs) and observational studies were included. Estimated effects were analyzed using mean difference (MD) or\r\nrelative risk (RR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) and meta-analysis. Results. 86 kinds of TCHPs were identified. RCTs and\r\ncontrolled clinical trials (CCTs) which were mostly of low quality favored TCHPs for local pain and dysfunction relief. TCHPs,\r\ncompared with diclofenac ointment, had significant effects on global effectiveness rate (RR = 0.50; 95% CI (0.29, 0.87)).Components\r\nof formulae were mainly based on the compounds ââ?¬Å?Xiao Huo Luo Danââ?¬Â (Minor collateral-freeing pill) and ââ?¬Å?Du Huo Ji Sheng Tangââ?¬Â\r\n(Angelicae Pubescentis and Loranthi decoction). Ten kinds of adverse events (AEs), mainly consisting of itching and/or local skin\r\nrashes, were identified after 3-4 weeks of follow-up. Conclusions. TCHPs have certain evidence in improving global effectiveness\r\nrate for OA; however, more rigorous studies are warranted to support their use....
Introduction. Diabetes is a major public health problem. Little is known about the spiritual well-being and its relationship with\r\nquality of life (QOL) in IranianMuslim patients with diabetes. This study investigated the spiritual well-being and QOL of Iranian\r\nadults with type 2 diabetes and the association between spiritual well-being, QOL, and depression. Methods. A cross-sectional\r\nstudy was done among 203 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in Isfahan, Iran. Quality of life and spiritual well-being were\r\nmeasured using the functional assessment of chronic illness therapy-spiritual well-being (FACIT-Sp). Depression was assessed\r\nusing the Patient Health Questionnaire-2 (PHQ-2). Descriptive analysis, Pearsons correlation, and multiple regression analysis\r\nwere performed for statistical assessment. Results. The mean QOL was 61.00 (SD = 9.97) and the mean spiritual well-being was\r\n30.59 (SD= 6.14). Sixty-four percent of our studied population had depressive disorders. There was a significant positive correlation\r\nbetween all QOL subscales and meaning, peace, and total spiritual well-being score. Conclusion. The results of this study showed\r\npoor QOL and spiritual well-being and high prevalence of depression in Iranian patients with type 2 diabetes compared to other\r\nstudies findings especially western studies. This indicates the need for psychosocial and spiritual support in caring for Iranian\r\npatients with diabetes....
About 10ââ?¬â??15% of couples have difficulty conceiving at some point in their reproductive lives and thus have to seek specialist fertility\r\ncare.One of themost commonly used treatment options is in vitro fertilization (IVF) and its related expansions.Despitemany recent\r\ntechnological advances, the average IVF live birth rate per single initiated cycle is still only 30%. Consequently, there is a need to\r\nfind new therapies to promote the efficiency of the procedure. Many patients have turned to complementary and alternative medical\r\n(CAM) treatments as an adjuvant therapy to improve their chances of success when they undergo IVF treatment. At present, several\r\nCAM methods have been used in infertile couples with IVF, which has achieved obvious effects. However, biologically plausible\r\nmechanisms of the action of CAM for IVF have not been systematically reviewed. This review briefly summarizes the current\r\nprogress of the impact of CAM on the outcomes of IVF and introduces the mechanisms....
